The tiny 1-inch size is exactly what I wanted for pulling back little sections while I do my makeup, and it grips fine without leaving a dent. I've got fine hair and it doesn't slide out even on day-two hair.

Bought these for my thick curly hair and the little teeth actually grip without pulling. I clipped three along my part for a going-out look and they stayed put all night.

Bought these to pin back my finer baby hairs at the temples and the little 1.25-inch claws grip without slipping. The spring feels sturdy for something so small, though I do wish the hinge opened a touch wider for thicker sections.
